Brae Farm Harvest Notes November 22, 2024
We'll have a small harvest of boysenberries next week. The strawberries have had their first big flush, and are slowing down slightly.
We have an abundance of new potatoes coming on. The nicolas are ready to harvest, at that beautiful 'slightly smaller than an egg' size. There are still plenty of pink fir apples in a range of sizes. We could grade out the smaller ones, and send the rest up for staff meals for a couple of weeks if they're wanted.
We've got around 30 purplette onions left from the first succession. The next bed has at least 70-80 at a harvestable size with more coming on. Our ishikura spring onions are getting huge. We'll have baby red spring onions again in about two weeks.
The agretti is particularly nice at the moment, and we have plenty if the kitchen can use any more of it.
It would be good to pick some larger Detroit beetroot next week. They're not going to get much bigger unless we thin the bed out. There would be 1-2 plastic baskets of medium-large beets.
Our early succession of chervil has mostly bolted in the hot weather. It will be quite limited until the new bed is ready.
The broad bean tips have slowed down noticeably, and we won't find the current quantities next week. We should have enough to include in the garden dish for another few weeks.
